Dhaka: Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has issued a stern warning and blamed country’s politicians, people, administration for the mess the nation is in today saying they are facing a self-manufactured crisis. General Zaman has called everyone to sort out their differences, infighting and work together otherwise the country will lose its sovereignty.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman said he’s warning everyone that if they don’t sort out differences, stop killing each other, then the country will lose its independence. And if this happens, then don’t blame the Army for it because he only has 30,000 soldiers who alone cannot defend the situation.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman has called for conducting elections in the country as soon as possible. He said if things continue like this — politically unstable country — there will never be peace in Bangladesh. The Army Chief expressed hope to have free, fair and inclusive election by December or before that adding Yunus agrees with him and called everyone to unite.

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman further said that he’s witnessing a common thing that people are attacking the army and warned everyone not to do that.

General Zaman said that he cannot understand the anger and hatred towards the Army and Army Chief because they work for the people, politicians and the Navy and Air Force help them. General Zaman added he has to go to politicians and listen to their lectures but if they have some good advice, they will listen to it.

“I have had enough for the last 7-8 months… people are fighting each other internally, we are living in a lawless situation and criminals want to take the advantage of it adding staying united for important for the country,” General Zaman said.

Bangladesh is in a politically volatile situation ever since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from the country as a result of a military coup. The country faced massive protests for weeks and months last year as the world witnessed Dhaka being taken over by radical Islamist regime, under the leadership of interim chief advisor Muhammad Yunus.

As a result of this political unrest, there was no check on law and order, no rule of law. Minorities, especially Hindus became the target of radical islamists who attacked their homes, temples, looted shops, destroyed businesses and what not. Not just the minorities, pro-Yunus protesters also targeted ministers, leaders of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, attacked their homes as well and killed many of them.
