Bolivia Bus Crash: At Least 37 Killed, 30 Injured In Tragic Road Accident- wna24
Sucre: At least 37 people were killed and 30 others were injured after a bus crashed near Uyuni in Bolivia. According to police reports, the accident took place early on Saturday, around 5 km from Uyuni in the Potosi department. As per reports, the preliminary investigations suggested that the accident was caused by a “lane invasion”, which led to a head-on collision between two passenger buses.
The report further suggested that one of the buses was en route to Oruro, where the renowned Oruro Carnival was taking place. The impact of the collision was severe, with images showing the wreckage of one bus with its exterior ripped apart and luggage scattered across the roadside.
Police Commander Wilson Flores stated that one of the drivers is currently in intensive care, while the other is in stable condition. The local authorities are awaiting the results of alcohol tests conducted on both drivers. The emergency teams worked diligently to recover the vehicles and transport the injured to hospitals in Oruro and Potosi.
The police stated that the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, and the condition of those injured remains unclear. The Bolivian government and emergency services are working to provide support to the families of the victims and those affected by the tragedy.
The latest tragic incident is not an isolated road crash with such massive fatalities in Bolivia. The country has a disturbing history of deadly road accidents, particularly in the mountainous Potosi region. Just last month, over 30 people lost their lives when a bus plunged nearly 800 mt into a ravine between Potosi and Oruro. A similar tragedy in January claimed 19 lives when a bus veered off the road in the same area.
