CIA Director Confirms US Has Paused Intelligence Support to Ukraine – wna24

The United States has temporarily halted intelligence support and weapons shipments to Ukraine following a tense meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed on Wednesday.

Speaking in an interview with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo, Ratcliffe explained that Trump ordered the pause after questioning whether Zelensky was fully committed to peace negotiations.

“Trump had a real question about whether President Zelensky was committed to the peace process, and he said let’s pause,” Ratcliffe said.

However, the CIA director suggested that the suspension may soon be lifted, especially after Zelensky responded to Trump’s concerns in a letter.

The decision has already had consequences for Ukraine’s military operations, as per a report from CNN News. A senior US military official reportedly revealed that the US has scaled back intelligence sharing, including fewer surveillance and reconnaissance flights. This could weaken Ukraine’s ability to defend against Russian forces, as the country relies heavily on US intelligence for battlefield oversight and air defense.

Before Trump took office, US officials had reportedly emphasized to his team how critical intelligence-sharing with Ukraine had been to its battlefield successes. However, following last week’s Oval Office clash, the Trump administration put those efforts on hold.

The temporary suspension of military aid has sparked concern among both Ukrainian and American military officials, with ongoing discussions about how it may impact Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Ratcliffe expressed optimism that the situation would be resolved soon, emphasizing the US commitment to helping Ukraine push back against Russian aggression.

“And I think we’ll work shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as we have to push back on the aggression that’s there, put the world in a better place for these peace negotiations to move forward,” he said.

While there is no official timeline for restoring support, the Trump administration has signaled that aid may resume if progress is made in peace talks. Until then, Ukraine faces growing uncertainty as it navigates both military and diplomatic challenges.
