Donald Trump Sets Record for Longest Presidential Speech to Congress – wna24
United States President Donald Trump delivered his first address to Congress on Wednesday (Tuesday in the US) since returning to power for his second term. In a historic speech, Trump set the record for the longest-ever address to a joint session of Congress, surpassing the previous record held by President Bill Clinton.
Trump’s speech followed his significant decisions on tariffs, immigration, Ukraine, and federal employee layoffs. The address lasted over an hour and 40 minutes, breaking the previous record of 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 49 seconds set by Bill Clinton’s 2000 State of the Union address.
According to the American Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which has been tracking the length of presidential speeches since President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, Trump’s speech set a new record.
Although it wasn’t officially a State of the Union address, since Trump had only been in office for about six weeks, his speech remains the longest ever delivered to a joint session of Congress.
Trump, in his speech, shared that he had recently received a letter from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, advocating peace in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The letter stated, “Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. No one desires peace more than the Ukrainians.” Zelenskyy further mentioned, “My team and I are ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to achieve a lasting peace. We truly appreciate how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is prepared to sign it at any time that suits you,” Trump added.
