San Francisco: A major outage hit Social media platform X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk on Monday, leaving thousands of users frustrated as they faced connectivity issues worldwide. Many took to Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, to report problems and vent their anger at Elon Musk. Musk and the Twitter team are working to trace those responsible.
The outage peaked at 3 PM, with 2,612 users reporting disruptions. A second spike occurred between 6 PM and 7:30 PM, affecting 1,312 users. As of the latest update, the platform remained unstable, with users still facing issues.
Users Blame Musk, Demand His Resignation
Users turned to Downdetector to share their frustration, with one person criticizing Musk’s leadership and saying he should “fire himself” for the way he is running the platform.
Several users mocked Musk for handling the platform, with one frustrated user writing on Downdetector, “Musk needs to fire himself. He is terrible at running ‘X.'” Meanwhile, another user from India reported that the platform was not working in the country.

Possible DDoS Attack?
Amid the outage, speculation surfaced that X might be experiencing a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. A user commented, “So X/Twitter is having a DDoS attack. I remember hanging out with some of these guys during the 4chan days before they splintered off to form Anonymous… this isn’t their usual M.O. This feels like Temu brand Anonymous.”
Elon Musk Claims ‘Massive Cyberattack’ On X
Tech billionaire Elon Musk later claimed that his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was hit by a “massive cyberattack”, leading to repeated outages throughout the day.
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against ????. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing,” Musk wrote on X, responding to rumours about a possible attack on X.

Millions of users worldwide reported log-in issues, failed page loads, and error messages, with many unable to access posts or refresh their feeds.
This isn’t the platform’s first major outage. Back in March 2023, when it was still known as Twitter, users faced a series of technical glitches for over an hour, causing links to stop working, login attempts to fail, and images to not load.
