‘I Believe Putin, Difficult to Deal with Ukraine’: Trump Hours After Threatening Russia with Sanctions- wna24

Washington DC: A few hours after US President Donald Trump said that he is considering imposing large-scale sanctions on Russia, he has reaffirmed his trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin and has said that it is easier to work with Russia, as compared to Ukraine.

During a televised press conference at the White House, US President Donald Trump said that he believes in Putin and that it is easier to deal with him and Russia, as compared to Zelenskyy-led Ukraine. 

Trump said, “I believe him (Putin). I’m finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine and they don’t have the cards. It may be easier dealing with Russia.” On the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, Trump said that he has always had a very good relationship with Putin, he wants to end the war, and that he is going to be very generous, which means a ‘lot of good things’. 

Trump’s statement about his trust in Putin comes hours after he said that he is considering imposing large-scale sanctions on Russia until Ukraine and Russia reach a ceasefire agreement and a peace deal is finalised to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale banking sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and final settlement agreement on peace is reached.”

This post comes after Trump faced allegations and criticism for ‘siding’ towards Putin and putting more pressure on Ukraine to reach a peace agreement while downplaying Moscow’s responsibility for beginning the war three years ago. In his post on Truth Social, Trump not only expressed readiness to impose severe sanctions on Russia but also issued what seemed like an ultimatum to both Kyiv and Moscow, urging them to come to the negotiating table immediately before it’s too late.
