‘If War Is What US Wants’: China Reacts to Trump’s Tariff Charge- wna24

Washington: The Chinese Embassy in the US issued a strong warning to President Donald Trump on Wednesday, stating that it is “ready to fight a war if that is what the United States wants.”

This response follows Trump’s imposition of tariffs related to the fentanyl issue.

“If the US truly wants to solve the fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China by treating each other as equals. If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end,” the Chinese embassy’s post on X read.

Meanwhile, China’s foreign ministry dismissed the fentanyl issue as “a flimsy excuse” to justify tariff hikes on Chinese imports. A spokesperson for the ministry declared that China’s actions to protect its rights and interests were entirely justified and necessary.

“The US, not anyone else, is responsible for the fentanyl crisis. In the spirit of humanity and goodwill towards the American people, we have taken robust steps to assist the US in dealing with the issue. Instead of recognizing our efforts, the US has sought to smear and shift blame to China and is seeking to pressure and blackmail China with tariff hikes. They’ve been PUNISHING us for helping them. This is not going to solve the US’s problem and will undermine our counternarcotics dialogue and cooperation,” the statement read.

China’s response to Donald Trump’s tariffs includes imposing retaliatory tariffs on a variety of agricultural goods imported from the United States. On Tuesday, China’s finance ministry announced that additional tariffs ranging from 10 per cent to 15 per cent would be applied to agricultural products such as soybeans, corn, dairy, and beef.

According to Reuters, products like soybeans, sorghum, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy will face a 10 per cent tariff in China. Additionally, a 15 per cent tariff will be imposed on items such as chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton. Along with these tariffs, China has also enacted export and investment restrictions on 25 US companies.
