Gaza: In a major development, Israel has given its nod to the United States’ proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza during the sacred periods of Ramadan and Passover. The announcement was made by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, marking a crucial step towards temporary peace in the region amidst the arrival of the holy month.
The approval of the US proposal is expected to bring much-needed relief to the people of Gaza, who have been bearing the brunt of the ongoing conflict. The ceasefire, coinciding with the holy periods of Ramadan and Passover, will provide a temporary reprieve from the violence.
Meanwhile, the experts believe that even though the approval of the US proposal is a big development, challenges still lie ahead. The parties involved will need to work towards implementing the ceasefire, and negotiating a lasting peace agreement.
What US Proposed
The US proposal, which has been in the works for some time, is seen as a major step towards achieving peace in the region. The proposal outlines a framework for a ceasefire, which would be followed by negotiations between the parties involved.

Netanyahu’s Office Confirms Approval
In a statement released on Sunday, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel had approved the US proposal. This development is seen as a positive step towards achieving a temporary ceasefire in Gaza. “Israel has endorsed a US proposal to temporarily extend the truce in Gaza as a bridging measure after the first phase of its ceasefire with Hamas drew to a close,” the Israeli PMO said.
Meanwhile, the international community has welcomed Israel’s approval of the US proposal.
Israel Suspends Entry of Supplies Into Gaza
Earlier, Israel suspended the entry of supplies into Gaza on Sunday, citing deadly attacks in the territory. The move is expected to exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. According to a statement released by the PMO, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the decision to suspend the entry of goods and supplies into Gaza. The statement read, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided that, from this morning, all entry of goods and supplies into the Gaza Strip will be suspended.”
The PMO statement also warned that if Hamas persists with its refusal, there will be other consequences.

International Community Urged To Intervene
Amidst Israel’s action, the international community has been urged to intervene in the situation, to prevent a further deterioration of the humanitarian crisis. The United Nations (UN) and other humanitarian organisations have been working to provide aid to the people of Gaza, but their efforts are being hindered by the suspension of supplies.
Egypt has been mediating between Israel and Hamas, in an effort to broker a ceasefire. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has called for total compliance with the Gaza ceasefire deal and urged both Israel and Hamas to honor their commitments. Egypt is hosting a meeting of Arab foreign ministers on Monday, ahead of a summit the next day, where they will discuss a reconstruction plan for Gaza.
