New Delhi: US Vice President JD Vance was met with a chorus of boos at the Kennedy Center during a National Symphony Orchestra performance. As Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, took their seats, audience members jeered, with one protester heard shouting, “Kill that Vice.” In response, Vance acknowledged the crowd with a wave.
This incident comes amid ongoing controversy at the Kennedy Center, where over 20 performances have been cancelled or postponed since President Donald Trump appointed himself chairman in February. Trump also replaced several board members, including Usha Vance, with his own selections.
Encounter with Pro-Ukraine Protesters
Earlier this week, Vance was confronted by a group of pro-Ukraine protesters while walking in Ohio with his three-year-old daughter, Mirabel. The demonstrators accused him of “selling out” Ukraine and lacking “integrity” due to his evolving stance on Trump.
Addressing the incident, Vance stated, “Today while walking my three-year-old daughter, a group of ‘Slava Ukraini’ protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared.”
While describing the conversation as “mostly respectful,” he criticized the protesters for involving his child. “If you’re chasing a three-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s—t person,” he said.
Protesters Challenge Vance’s Position
Video footage captures Vance pushing his daughter in a stroller, flanked by three Secret Service agents, as protesters pressed him on his stance. When one demonstrator accused him of lacking integrity, Vance pointed to his daughter and said, “Ma’am, look at my three-year-old daughter now. I told you I’d talked to you for five minutes.”
A protester shot back, “You signed up for this job,” to which Vance responded, “I did not agree to have people yell at my child.”
He further stated, “I said if I talk to you for a few minutes, will you leave my three-year-old daughter alone, and you said yes. So I’d like you guys to respect that.”
When Vance Confronts Zelensky at the White House
Vance has been under fire from pro-Ukraine supporters since his tense Oval Office meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28. During the exchange, Vance challenged Zelensky’s request for additional U.S. funding and questioned his credibility, adding to the growing friction over America’s role in the conflict.
