FBI Nominee Kash Patel Moves to Final Senate Confirmation Vote- wna24
Washington: The US Senate on Thursday approved Kash Patel, the first Indian-origin American, as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), appointing him to lead the agency.
At 44, Patel becomes the first Indian American to lead the FBI. A former intelligence official and a close ally of President Trump, he was a dominant figure during the nomination process.
Patel will succeed Christopher Wray, also a Trump nominee, as FBI Director for a 10-year term, though such terms have not been upheld in recent years.
Patel, a Trump loyalist who has sharply criticized the FBI, is set to take over an agency in turmoil. Recently, the Justice Department ousted senior officials and demanded the names of agents involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigations.
