PM Modi to Attend Mauritius National Day Celebrations As Chief Guest, Indian Navy and IAF to take part | LIVE | Image: X
PM Modi Mauritius Visit LIVE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend Mauritius’s 57th National Day celebrations today (March 12) as the Chief Guest. In addition to the national celebrations, the Indian Navy will participate with a marching contingent, an Indian Navy helicopter and the Akash Ganga Skydiving Team from the Indian Air Force. A team of NCC cadets will also take part in the festivities.
Following the parade, PM Modi will visit Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin), a significant Hindu pilgrimage site. After 2 pm, an official ceremony will take place at the State Lounge of the Airport before the Prime Minister’s return to India, as per the PM’s official itineraries.
Upon his arrival at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Port Louis on Tuesday, PM Modi was warmly received by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, his wife Veena Ramgoolam, and several other high-ranking officials, including Deputy PM Paul Berenger. Deputy Foreign Minister Hambyrajen Narsinghen expressed Mauritius’ deep honor in hosting PM Modi, emphasising the countries’ strong and growing partnership.

Strengthening ties with Mauritius is crucial for India amid China’s growing presence in the Indian Ocean region.
Currently, New Delhi aims to collaborate closely with island nations like Mauritius to counterbalance China’s influence in the area. The Indian Ocean region has become a geopolitical hotspot, with countries like Europe, the Gulf states, Russia, Iran, and Turkey expanding their influence.
India is focused on nurturing relationships with neighboring countries to safeguard its strategic interests.
India and Mauritius are set to sign a technical agreement on sharing white-shipping information to enhance maritime security cooperation. This agreement will allow real-time data sharing, improving regional cooperation and securing Mauritius’ trading routes.

PM Modi on Tuesday was conferred with the nation’s highest honour, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.
Following this, the Indian PM emphasised that Mauritius is not just a partner country but a family to India.
“Mauritius, with large ocean territories, needs to secure its resources from illegal fishing, piracy and crimes. As a trusted and reliable friend, India works with Mauritius to protect your national interests and secure the Indian Ocean region,” he said.
“Mauritius is not just a partner country. For us, Mauritius is family…Mauritius is also a bridge connecting India to the wider Global South,” the PM added.
