Kyiv: The Russian army strike on a town in Ukraine’s Donetsk region on Friday night which killed at least 11 people, officials said on Saturday. Responding to the attack Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Putin’s war finance must collapse and increased sanctions against Russia must continue.
This wave of heavy aerial ballistic missile attacks came hours after US President Donald Trump’s decision to stop sharing satellite images with Ukraine.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said a Russian drone damaged a Ukrainian fire truck while rescuers fought to extinguish the burning buildings.
Zelenskky criticizing Russia’s aggression, he wrote, “Everything that helps Putin finance the war must collapse.” and “it is crucial to continue to do our best to protect lives, strengthen our air defenses, and increase sanctions against Russia.” he added.
While Zelenskyy did not directly address the intelligence-sharing agreement, he appeared to indirectly respond to comments made by Trump on Friday regarding financial sanctions against Moscow.
In a social media post, the US president suggested implementing extensive banking sanctions and tariffs on Russia, with the conditions that they remain in place until a ceasefire and a final peace agreement are achieved.
Zelenskyy condemned the attack, saying, “After our emergency services arrived at the scene, they launched another strike, deliberately targeting the rescuers.”
“This is a vile and inhumane intimidation tactic often used by the Russians.” he added.
Thirty people were also reported injured in multiple strikes late Friday that damaged eight apartment blocks in the town of Dobropillya, which is close to the front where Russian troops have been making steady advances.
Ukraine’s air force reported Saturday that Russian troops launched three Iskander missiles and 145 drones over the country overnight.
Among the targeted areas was Ukraine’s northeastern region of Kharkiv, where three people died after a Russian drone hit a civilian workshop, emergency services said.
