Moscow: Russia fiercely criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after his tense confrontation with US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House on Friday. The verbal clash, which resulted in Zelenskyy’s abrupt exit from the Oval Office, has sparked a wave of condemnation from Russian officials.
The confrontation between the US-Ukraine leadership unfolded during a high-stakes diplomatic meeting at the White House. Trump and Vance sharply criticized Zelenskyy, accusing him of failing to show gratitude for US assistance in Ukraine’s ongoing war against Russia. The heated exchange escalated when Trump told Zelenskyy that Ukraine would have been overrun by Russia without US support. Trump then warned Zelenskyy that he was “in no position to negotiate,” and that the US would pull its support unless Ukraine agreed to a peace deal. “You don’t have the cards right now. You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty,” Trump told the Ukrainian president.

Furthermore, the Russian government quickly seized on the incident, with Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, launched a scathing attack on Zelenskyy, accusing him of lying about Ukraine’s support during the war.
In her post on Telegram, Zakharova called Zelenskyy’ a “scumbag.”
“I think Zelensky’s biggest lie of all his lies was his assertion in the White House that the Kyiv regime in 2022 was alone, without support,” the post read.
“How Trump and Vance held back from hitting that scumbag is a miracle of restraint,” she said, adding that Zelensky was “biting the hand that feeds him,” accusing the Ukrainian leader of being “unpleasant with everyone.”

Furthermore, former President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy head of the Russian Security Council, referring to Zelenskyy as an “insolent pig” who had been “properly slapped down” during the meeting.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund, also weighed in, calling the confrontation “historic” and underscoring the significance of the clash in light of the ongoing war. Dmitriev had been one of Moscow’s negotiators in Russian-American talks held in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
The White House showdown becomes the latest point of tension between the US and Ukraine, with critics of Zelenskyy in Moscow using this episode to highlight perceived fractures in Ukraine’s international support. While Zelenskyy’s supporters continue to call for more Western aid, Russia’s leadership has seized on the opportunity to undermine Ukraine’s position on the global stage.
The verbal sparring between Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vance comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions, and the fallout is expected to shape future discussions around US foreign policy, the war in Ukraine, and the ongoing rivalry with Russia.
