Muzaffarnagar: A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar is critical, after he consumed poison on a live video, alleging harassment by his wife and in-laws. This is not the first case that has been reported in the last few months, where a man has committed suicide over torture and harassment by wife and her family.

A man named Rahul, who hails from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, is critical and is fighting for his life after he attempted suicide in his house. The man consumed poison on a live video; the disturbing visuals show him opening a packet of poison, consuming it and then losing consciousness.

The man, who consumed poison on a live video, has alleged torture and harassment by his wife and in-laws. The victim’s video has been shared on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), by the NCM India Council for Men Affairs.

In the video, the victim, Rahul can be seen saying that these are his last moments because his in-laws are troubling him, torturing his aged parents and entrapping his elder brothers and their families. He went on to say that his wife Jyoti and her family have made a fake case against him and are extorting money, demanding over Rs 12 lakh.

Rahul has claimed that his wife said that she married him for money, not to settle down with him; he also claimed that he has been apologising for no mistake of his but despite that, his wife is refusing divorce and has said that she would destroy him. The man is crying in the video and has sought help and justice, even after he passes away.

He has said in the video that he does not want to die but has no other option; he also said that once he is gone, how will the fake case last, how will his wife and in-laws extort money. He then takes a packet of poison, empties it in a glass of water, mixes it with his finger and then drinks it.

In the recent past, unfortunately, several such cases have been reported, where the man has committed suicide following torture and harassment by wife and her family. The first such case that was reported recently was of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, who committed suicide and left behind a long suicide note and video, blaming his wife and her family for his grave step. Another case was that of a TCS Manager from Agra, who committed suicide over harassment by wife. Amid the rightful protests for women safety and crimes against women, there are incidents where the women have been misusing their rights, to extort money and are in the wrong – these cases are a reminder of that and need as much importance, to ensure justice is delivered, irrespective of the gender of the victim.
