Trump Signals Possible Reversal on Intel Sharing with Ukraine Amid US Policy Flip-Flop- wna24
President Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that the United States is “just about” ready to lift the pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
The intelligence freeze, which largely affected information related to offensive operations against Russia, had created serious difficulties for Ukraine’s military. The restriction was one of the key reasons Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement expressing regret over his public dispute with Trump at the White House and emphasizing his willingness to engage in peace talks with Russia.
When asked by a reporter if he would lift the intelligence-sharing suspension, Trump responded, “We just about have, we really just about have.”
Trump also indicated that he believes Ukraine will sign a minerals deal with the U.S. but stressed that he wants to see more commitment to peace from the Ukrainian side. “I want Ukraine to want peace … and right now they haven’t shown it to the extent that they should. But I think they will be, and I think it’s going to become evident over the next two or three days,” he said.
Trump’s comments come ahead of a critical meeting between senior U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The meeting will focus on potential ceasefire negotiations in the ongoing three-year war between Ukraine and Russia.
The president expressed optimism about the discussions, saying he hopes to make progress this week and believes the Saudi Arabia talks will produce “good results.”
No Update on U.S. Weapons Shipments
While Trump suggested that intelligence sharing may soon resume, he did not clarify whether the U.S. would also lift the recent suspension on weapons shipments to Ukraine. The pause on military aid was imposed a week ago, and Trump’s remarks did not indicate any immediate changes to that policy.
As Ukraine continues to rely on U.S. support in its war against Russia, the next few days could prove crucial in determining the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations and military cooperation.
