Moscow: In what appears to be the most extensive Ukrainian drone assault since the war began, Russian military officials reported that air defence systems intercepted 337 drones over 10 regions overnight. The attack, which targeted Moscow and several border regions, resulted in two deaths and 18 injuries, including three children, according to Russian authorities.
The massive assault came just hours before high-stakes Ukraine-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia, where top Ukrainian officials are set to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to discuss potential measures to end the conflict. Reports suggest Ukraine may propose a ceasefire in the Black Sea to ensure safer shipping routes and discuss restrictions on long-range missile strikes.
Moscow Faces Biggest Drone Strike Yet, Trains And Flights Hit
Among the 337 drones, 91 were intercepted over Moscow, marking the largest single attack on the Russian capital since the war began. Over 70 drones were en route to Moscow before being taken down, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed. Several residential buildings and cars sustained damage, though officials described it as “insignificant.”
Other regions affected include Kursk (126 drones shot down), Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan.
Train traffic at Domodedovo railway station was briefly halted, and flights at six airports, including Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky, were temporarily restricted.
U.S.-Ukraine Talks in Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s senior delegation is preparing for crucial discussions with U.S. officials in Jeddah. Reports indicate Kyiv may propose a deal granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, a resource of strategic interest to Washington.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Rubio clarified that no immediate conditions would be set on Ukraine, stating the talks were focused on assessing both Kyiv and Moscow’s willingness to negotiate. While the rare earth minerals deal could be signed during the discussions, it remains a broad memorandum of understanding with further details yet to be finalized.
The Kremlin has made no immediate concessions, maintaining that Ukraine must drop its NATO bid and recognize Moscow-occupied territories as Russian for any ceasefire discussions to move forward.
