Vivek Ramaswamy Trolled After Old Clip Shows Him Giving Interview Barefoot Resurfaces, Netizens Say ‘Anti-American’- wna24

Washington: Vivek Ramaswamy, the 39-year-old Indian-American entrepreneur, has found himself at the centre of a row for appearing in an interview barefoot at his home. Ramaswamy became the subject of trolls when a clip from his old interview last year surfaced online, showing him giving the interview suited but without shoes.

Ramaswamy’s critics lashed out at him, saying his conduct was uncivilized and anti-American. However, commentator Ian Miles Cheong has come to his defence.

As many labeled Ramaswamy as uncivilized and anti-American, commentator Ian Miles Cheong came out in support of him, saying there is nothing anti-American about remaining barefoot or not wearing shoes at home. He added that perhaps Ramaswamy’s haters have been influenced by sitcoms that show people wearing shoes even in bed.

Ian Miles Cheong took to X, formerly Twitter and said the dumbest argument he has heard against Vivek is that being barefoot in your own home is anti-American.

“The dumbest argument I’ve heard against Vivek is that going barefoot in your own house is anti-American. I guess too many people grew up on sitcoms where they wear their shoes in bed,” Cheong said.

The video showed Vivek Ramaswamy appearing in an interview at his residence, all suited but barefoot.

Responding to the backlash, Ramaswamy himself intervened and said, “This is America, folks. I let the dogs out in my house when I feel like it.”

Many users who continued criticising Vivek Ramaswamy said that he’s never going to be their governor. As many criticised Ramaswamy, several others expressed support for him, saying that removing shoes indoors is a common practice in many South and South Asian countries, including India.

Rather than being uncivilised, removing shoes inside homes is a practice that is more civilised because it keeps the place clean.

Ramaswamy, who was earlier a presidential candidate later declared his support for Donald Trump, and is now running for Ohio’s Governor.

Ramaswamy was initially a part of DOGE, however, due to some differences with Elon Musk, he quit the department and later declared his candidacy for Ohio Governor.
