Ans. Many microbial agents can commonly move from an affected person to someone else in a variety of ways. In other words, they can be ‘communicated’, and so are also called communicable diseases.
Q.2. What is immunity ?
Ans. Immunity means the resistance of the body to a disease. It is due to the presence of antibodies in our body for the disease causing microorganisms known as antigens. When these antigens enter our body, antibodies are formed which prevent the disease.
Q.3. Name the organism causing the following diseases : (i) Kala-azar (ii) Sleeping sickness
Ans. (i) Leishmania (ii) Trypanosoma.
Q.4. It was diagnosed that a patient has lost the power of fighting against any infection.
(i) Name the disease from which the patient is suffering from.
(ii) Name the pathogen responsible for the disease.
Ans. (i) AIDS (ii) AIDS virus or HIV.
Q.5. Give one local and one general effect of inflammation process.
Ans. Local effects – swelling or pain. General effects – fever.
