Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has appointed right-wing radio commentator Dan Bongino as the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and will serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.
In a post on social media, the President said that Bongino is “a man of incredible love and passion for our Country.”
In his announcement on Sunday, Trump said Bongino is “willing and prepared to give up” the podcast “in order to serve”.

“Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly,” the President said.
Expressing his gratitude to Trump, the 50-year-old Bongino in a post on X wrote, “Thank you Mr President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel.”
This comes a few days after new FBI director, Patel, was narrowly confirmed by the Senate last week to lead the law enforcement agency he has frequently criticised.
Democrats expressed concerns that he might target Trump’s opponents, though the former prosecutor has denied any intentions of pursuing political vendettas and has pledged to “rebuild” the bureau.
Who is Dan Bongino, the New FBI Deputy Director?
Born on 4 December 1974, Dan is an American conservative political commentator, radio host, and author. He currently hosts “The Dan Bongino Show” on Rumble and previously hosted Unfiltered with Dan Bongino on Fox News until April 2023.
He graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in Jamaica, Queens, in 1992. He then attended Queens College, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology, before obtaining an MBA from Pennsylvania State University.

Later, Bongino served as a police officer with the New York City Police Department from 1995 to 1999.
In 1999, he joined the United States Secret Service as a special agent. Two years later, he transitioned to an instructor role at the Secret Service Training Academy in Beltsville, Maryland. He was later assigned to the Presidential Protection Division during George W. Bush’s second term and continued in this role during Barack Obama’s presidency until he left in May 2011 to run for the US Senate.
In 2011, The Baltimore Sun reported that Bongino had led the investigation into a car rental fraud scheme, which resulted in two individuals being indicted on federal wire fraud charges.
Bongino ran for a US Senate seat in Maryland in 2012.
In 2013, he published his memoir, Life Inside the Bubble, which reflects on his time as a Secret Service agent, his experiences protecting Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, his work on federal crime investigations, and his Senate campaign.
Cancer Diagnosis: On September 23, 2020, Bongino revealed that doctors had discovered a seven-centimeter tumor in his throat. While uncertain whether it was cancerous or benign, he planned to fly to New York on September 25 for further tests. On October 2, he shared that he had received concerning news from his doctors and would be undergoing surgery on October 7.
After the surgery, Bongino posted on social media that the entire tumour had been removed but that he was likely dealing with lymphoma. He indicated that he would begin treatment soon. On October 16, he confirmed that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and would continue his treatment with guidance from his medical team. In a July 2021 interview, Bongino shared that he had successfully “beaten” cancer.
