New Delhi:  A group of Khalistani extremists attempted to disturp the visit of India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, in London, escalating into a security breach. The incident occurred as Jaishankar was leaving Chatham House following a public discussion on Wednesday.

A video of the event went viral showing a man aggressively rushing toward the EAM’s car and tearing the Indian national flag in front of police officers, causing an immediate security response. The protester, with others chanting pro-Khalistani slogans, ripped the tricolour flag before the police swiftly apprehended him and detained other extremists involved in the protest.

In addition, another video surfaced showing Khalistani supporters outside the venue where Jaishankar had been participating in a discussion. Protesters were seen waving flags and chanting slogans in support of the Khalistan movement.

The incident took place during Jaishankar’s official visit to the UK from March 4 to 9, where he engaged in a series of high-level meetings.

Earlier, the Indian foreign minister held discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Chevening House, covering a broad range of bilateral issues, including strategic cooperation, political ties, trade, education, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

During his talk at Chatham House, Jaishankar was asked whether former US President Donald Trump ’s interest in peace talks could help resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute with Pakistan . Jaishankar firmly rejected the idea of third-party intervention and defended India’s approach. He pointed out that India had already taken decisive actions, such as the abrogation of Article 370, promoting economic development in the region, and organizing high-turnout elections.

Jaishankar further emphasized that the unresolved issue of Kashmir lay beyond India’s control, stating, “I think the part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir, which is under an illegal Pakistani occupation. When that’s done, I assure you, Kashmir solved.”
