Virginia: The Indian-origin student of the University of Pittsburgh, Sudiksha Konanki has been missing in the US from the Dominican Republic for the last five days. The mystery around her sudden disappearance has further deepened after the man who last saw her alive made shocking revelations from the time he was with her.

Joshua Steven Ribe, who like Sudiksha Konanki, was also a guest at the Caribbean Resort, was the last person to see the Indian-origin student alive. According to the local reports, the 24-year-old tourist from Iowa, who was with Konanki before she disappeared, has given three versions of what transpired on the fateful day, to the police.

1. As per the local media report, Joshua Steven Ribe and Sudiksha Konanki were at a beach after partying all night with their friends. Ribe first told the police that he vomited due to the rough surf and then went back to shore and asked Konanki if she was alright.
2. In his second version, Ribe said that he left the water because his stomach was hurting and he felt sick. He had last seen Sudiksha Konanki in knee-deep water in the surf, before he passed out, only to wake up and find her missing.
3. According to Josh’s final version, he saw the Indian-origin student walking along the shore on the beach before he fell asleep; when he woke up, she was nowhere to be seen.

As per a local media outlet in the Dominican Republic, the 20-year-old Indian-origin student who had travelled to the Dominican Republic with her friends on a short trip, was last seen by one of her travel companions at the beach, at around 5:50 am. The report says that CCTV cameras caught her partying in the resort’s discotheque at around 3:00 am, and an hour later, she was seen leaving and heading to the beach where she stayed till 10 minutes to 6, before suddenly disappearing.

According to the poster circulated, Sudiksha Konanki was last seen in a brown bikini with big round earrings, yellow and steel bracelets on her right hand, multi-coloured beaded bracelet on her left hand and a metal anklet on her right leg. 

“We need your help to get the word out! If you are in the area or can help with the search, or if you have any information that could lead to her whereabouts, please reach out. The more people who know, the better the chances we can bring her home safely”, the poster read.

The University of Pittsburgh, where the Indian-origin student Sudiksha Konanki was studying, has issued an official statement after her mysterious disappearance and has assured that they are in contact with her family.

The statement reads, “University officials are in contact with Sudiksha Konanki’s family as well as authorities in Loudoun County, Virginia, and we have offered our full support in their efforts to find her and bring her home safely.”

As per Sudiksha Konanki’s LinkedIn profile, she is set to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in 2026 and attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia.

In an interview with a prominent media outlet, the missing student’s father shared that his daughter is driven and has aspirations of becoming a doctor. He mentioned that Sudiksha had told her friends she was going to a party at the resort on Wednesday. Early that morning, she went to the beach with her friends and a few guys she had met. According to him, her friends returned, but Sudiksha did not. The father stated that her friends, who had traveled with her, contacted authorities, and efforts are ongoing to locate her.
