Who Is Alice Weidel? The Far-right Banker Elon Musk Wants as German Chancellor- wna24

Washington: Elon Musk has thrown his weight behind another political figure, this time endorsing Alice Weidel, co-leader of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, as a potential chancellor of Germany.

The billionaire entrepreneur, who previously backed Donald Trump with a $250 million investment, hosted Weidel in a live conversation on X (formerly Twitter) this January. This discussion comes ahead of Germany’s snap elections on February 23, adding to the growing political debate around AfD’s rising influence.

Musk has openly criticised Germany’s leadership, calling Chancellor Olaf Scholz an ‘incompetent fool’ and labeling President Frank-Walter Steinmeier a “tyrant” for his stance against the AfD. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the BfV, has classified the AfD as a right-wing extremist party.

While details of Musk’s conversation with Weidel remain undisclosed, Weidel confirmed contact with Musk’s office, indicating his growing interest in European far-right politics. Musk had hinted at the event earlier on X, predicting a backlash from critics.

Alice Weidel, born in 1979, has an unconventional political trajectory. She holds a doctorate in economics, speaks fluent Mandarin, and worked in China for six years at the Bank of China. Before entering politics, she gained experience at Goldman Sachs and worked as a management consultant. Weidel joined the AfD in 2013 when it was primarily a eurosceptic party.
