Q. (a) Why do sclerenchyma cells have a narrow lumen ?
(b) Where are these tissues present and why ?
Ans. (a) Due to deposition of lignin there is no internal space inside the cell. This makes the wall of sclerenchymatous tissue thickened.
(b) Sclerenchyma tissues are present in stems, around vascular bundles in the veins of leaves and in the hard covering of seeds and nuts because they provide strength to the plant parts.
