Q. Differentiate between the following:
(a) Tube system of feather star and canal system of Euplectella
(b) Skeleton of shark and sea horse
(c) Respiratory organs of tadpole and frog
(d) Forelimbs of birds and lizard
(e) Skin of tree frog and human
Ans.
(a) Feather star has a peculiar water-driven tube system that they use for moving around. Euplectella has holes or pores all over the body. These lead to a canal system that helps in circulating water throughout the body to bring in food and oxygen.
(b) The skeleton of shark is made entirely of cartilage while the skeleton of sea horse is made of both bone and cartilage.
(c) Tadpoles respire through gills. Frogs respire through their skin and lungs.
(d) Forelimbs of birds are modified to form wings which help them to fly. Forelimbs of lizards help them to move.
(e) Skin of tree frog has mucus gland, i.e., it is slimy. They also respire through their skin. The skin of humans has sweat glands which help them in thermoregulation and excretion. They also have skin hairs.
