Q. Explain the following giving examples.
(a) Saturated solution.
(b) Pure substance
(c) Colloid.
(d) Suspension.
Ans.
(a) Saturated solution: It is the solution in which no more amount of solute can be dissolved at a particular temperature.
(b) Pure substance: It is a homogeneous material consisting of a single type of particles with definite set of properties.
(c) Colloid: It appears to be homogeneous but actually it is a heterogeneous mixture of solute and solvent. The solute particles are between 10-7 cm and 105 cm in diameter which neither dissolve nor settle down in the solvent
(d) Suspension: A heterogeneous mixture. The solute particles are visible even with the naked eye.
