Ans. (a) Ions are more stable than atoms because except the atoms of inert gases, the outermost shell of the atoms is incomplete. In order to complete octet, they lose or gain electrons.

(b) The outermost shell of the atoms of noble gases are complete. So, they show little chemical activity.
