Why do you fall in the forward direction when a moving bus brakes to a stop and fall backwards when it accelerates from rest?

Q. Why do you fall in the forward direction when a moving bus brakes to a stop and fall backwards when it accelerates from rest?
Ans. The bus and the persons in it are in the state of motion before the application of brakes. When the brakes are suddenly applied, the bus comes to the state of rest, but the passengers tend to continue in the state of motion because of inertia of motion. Therefore, they fall in forward direction. When a body at rest suddenly accelerates, the body falls backwards due to inertia of rest.
