Why is it advised to tie any luggage kept on the roof of a bus with a rope?

Ans. When a bus suddenly starts, the luggage on its top has a tendency to continue in its state of rest due to inertia of rest hence, it is left behind. Thus, the luggage has a tendency to fall in the

backward direction. Conversely, when a moving bus is stops suddenly, the luggage on its top has a tendency to continue in its state of motion due to inertia of motion hence; it falls in the forward direction. Thus, to prevent the falling of the luggage it is tied with rope, so as to hold it in place.
