Why water as steam may cause severe burns but water as ice has cooling effect ? Explain.

Ans. In steam water particles have high energy, the high energy of these particles in steam is transformed as heat and may cause burns. On the other hand in case of ice the water particles take heat energy from surroundings and thus gives a cooling effect.
