Ans. (a) Composite fish culture is the method to culture five or six species, both indigenous and exotic, together in a single fish pond. These species are selected so that they do not compete for food among themselves having different types of food habits.

(b) Merits of composite fish culture system :

(i) Different types of fish can be cultured along with a crop without causing damage to either of them.

(ii) It requires less feeding as fish feed on the waste of main crop.

Demerits of composite fish culture system : Many of the fish breed during monsoon. Even if fish seed is collected from the wild, it can be mixed with that of other species as well. So, a major problem in fish farming is the lack of availability of good quality seed.
