⇒ Mt. Everest was named after Sir George Everest, the then Surveyer General of India (from 1830 to 1843 A.D.). Sir G. Everest discovered the location of Mt. Everest, earlier known as Peak-15.
⇒ Location of Mt. Everest: Longitude : 85° 55’40” E and Lattitude: 27°59’16” Taking average measurement of different places around the mountain range in 1954 the height of Mt. Everest 8,848 metres was calculated. With the help of GPS satellite Geographic Society confirmed the height of Mt. Everest 8,850 m. on 5 May, 1999.
⇒ Mt. Everest is called Komolangma (Goddess of Ice) in Tibet and Sagarmatha (means Goddess of the Sky) in Nepal.
⇒ Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to scale Mt. Everest in 1953.
⇒ Messner and Habeler were the first to reach Mt. Everest without oxygen (May 8,1978).
⇒ Nowang Gombu is the first person to scale Mt. Everest twice-first with the American Expedition on 1st May, 1963 and second with Indian Expedition on 20th May, 1965. Nowang Gombu is the nephew of Tenzing Norgay.
⇒ Jim Whittaker is the first American to succeed scaling Mt. Everest on 1st May, 1963.
⇒ Junko Tabei (Japan) was the first woman in the world to scale the Mt. Everest (in 1975).
⇒ Bachhendri Pal is the first Indian woman to scale Mt. Everest (23rd May, 1984).
⇒ Lydia Bradey (New Zealand) was the first woman to climb Mt. Everest without oxygen on 22nd May, 1988.
⇒ Phu Dorjee was the first Indian to summit Mt. Everest without oxygen (on 5 May, 1984).
⇒ Kami Rita Sherpa (Nepal) is the person having the record in his name to scale Mt. Everest Maximum 23 time (till 21st May, 2019). The Nepali tourist guide Kami reached on Mt. Everest for the first time at the age of 24 in 1994.
⇒ Lhakpa Sherpa (Nepal) has achieved the ‘most ascents of Everest (female)-nine, since her first summit on 18 May, 2000 and most recently on 16 May, 2018.
⇒ Jordan Romero (America) is the youngest male in the world to scale Mt. Everest at the age of 13 on 22nd May 2010.
⇒ Malveth Poorna is the youngest Female in the world to reach Mt. Everest at the age of 13 on 25th May, 2014.
⇒ Raghav Juneja (Moradabad, U.P.) is the youngest Indian male to scale Mt. Everest at the age of 15 on 21st May, 2013. He was a member of the first school (Lawrence) team in the world to scale Mt. Everest. Besides Raghav, there were 5 other students in the team.
⇒ Arjun Vajpai (NOIDA, U.P.) scaled the Mt. Everest at the age of 16 years on 13th May, 2010.
Note: There is no age bar to scale Mt. Everest from Tibetan side.
⇒ Tom Whittekar was the first disabled person (with an artificial leg) to scale Mt. Everest in 1998.
⇒ Chris Bombadiar (Denvar, America) the first person suffering from Haemophilia reached Mt. Everest on 22nd May, 2017. Except Mt. Vinsen he has scaled all the highest peaks of every continent.
