Q. (i) Seema buys few grains of gold at the poles as per the instructions of one of her friends. She hands over the same when she meets her at the equator. Will the friend agree with the weight of gold bought? If not, why?
(ii) If the moon attracts the earth why does the earth not move towards the moon?
Ans. (i) No, because weight is the force with which the earth attracts the object, W = mg. As value of g is greater at poles, weight of the same gold will be less on equator.
(ii) The moon attracts the earth, but the earth does not move towards the moon because mass of moon is very small as compared to the mass of the earth.
