Ans. (a) Sandy soil has large particle size and has poor water holding capacity. So, it was unsuitable for growing vegetables.
(b) He added manure to the soil. It offered him two advantages :
(i) It increases the water holding capacity of the sandy soil.
(ii) Manure helps in enriching soil with nutrients and organic matter, thus increasing soil fertility.
